Two men have been apprehended following a violent robbery on Tuesday in Montgomery County, with local law enforcement benefiting from high-tech aid. The suspects, identified as Davon Lopez, 30, of Gaithersburg, and Anthony Tyrone Slater Jr., 25, of Germantown, face serious charges after footage from the Montgomery County Police Real-Time Intelligence Center (RTIC) played a pivotal role in their arrest.
According to the Montgomery County Police Department, the incident took place at the transit center located at the 9600 block of Lost Knife Road when officers, alerted by a call describing the robbery and assailants in progress, found the victim severely beaten and rushed him to the hospital where he was admitted with non-life-threatening injuries; the real-time data and video access from the RTIC provided officers with clarity they needed to identify the suspects.
Footage analysis pinpointed Lopez as he delivered multiple strikes and a kick to the victim's head after his fall, proceeding to rummage through the victim's pockets, while Slater was caught on camera stomping on the victim already down—this evidence, swiftly provided by the RTIC, proved crucial to recognizing and verifying the suspects' accounts of the attack.
With descriptions in hand, officers located two individuals corresponding to those given near a local laundromat on Lost Knife Road, and without delay apprehended Lopez and Slater as they attempted a departure from the store, both suspects were then charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, robbery and reckless endangerment and are currently held without bond.
