In a commendable act of solidarity and remembrance, members of the Garland Police Department laced up their running shoes to join the annual Walk Like MADD 5k. This community event, anchored by the overarching goal of the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) organization, strives to put an end to drunk driving, tackle drugged driving, curb underage drinking, and uphold those harmed by these reckless acts.
Uniting under the leaden sky, the officers participated regardless of weather conditions to honor Crystal Nuncio, a cherished Public Safety Dispatcher whose life was claimed by a drunk driver in 2015. Nuncio, surviving by her two children, is remembered as an exceptional individual. Walking and running in her memory, the department turned out to translate their grief into a clarion call for prevention, as stated in a social media post from the Garland Police Department.
Among the echoes of footfalls against the pavement, there was a collective effort to convey a stark message: driving impaired is a choice that is 100% preventable. By joining forces with the Walk Like MADD organization, Garland's finest expressed solidarity with a globally resonant message against intoxicated driving.
