Honolulu is gearing up for the holiday season with a 55-foot Cook Pine tree to be featured in this year's City Lights. The tree, harvested from Aiea yesterday, has been transported to the Frank F. Fasi Civic Center, marking the 40th year of this festive tradition, according to Spectrum Local News.

Choosing the right tree for City Lights is a significant task. It must be tall enough to symbolize the holidays and strong enough to hold numerous decorations. Mayor Rick Blangiardi and Honolulu crews harvested the tree around 10 a.m., bringing the holiday spirit from home to the civic celebration, as reported by KHON2.

The festivities will begin on December 7, with the Cook Pine tree being installed at the ceremonial grounds. Nate Serota from the Department of Parks and Recreation told KHON2, "A lot of times, we try to source Honolulu City Lights trees and Kapolei City Lights trees from park locations but on occasion, we get them from private donors." He added, "It’s really a fantastic way for them to be part of the holiday."
