A man has been taken into custody in Gladstone under accusations of murdering his mother inside the home they both occupied. Law enforcement officials conducted a welfare check Wednesday evening on Rosa Leyva, leading to the grim discovery of her body and the subsequent arrest of her son, Ronald Kirk.
Gladstone Police decided to initiate the welfare check at the residence near 8300 Carson Road just before 7 p.m., after which Kirk, who had responded to the door, presented behavior prompting officers to forcefully enter and confirm the wellbeing of Ms. Leyva. "Based on the interaction with Mr. Kirk, officers were compelled to enter the home to check on the condition of Ms. Leyva,” KOIN reported. Her demise was shortly confirmed thereafter.
The subsequent investigation led to Kirk being charged with murder and unlawful use of a weapon. Presently, he resides at Clackamas County Jail, as detailed by KATU. An inquiry involving multiple agencies, including the Gladstone Police Department, the Clackamas County Interagency Major Crimes Team, and the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office, is ongoing in relation to this case.
While the details surrounding Leyva’s death have not been made widely available, Gladstone law enforcement has assured that, despite the tragic events, there is no sustained threat or danger posed to the general populace. "There is no threat or danger to the public," Gladstone police were quoted saying in a statement obtained by KGW.
