At the National League of Cities "City Summit" in Tampa Bay, Florida, the Center for Digital Government awarded Grand Prairie for excelling in areas such as enhancing digital services, cybersecurity efforts, and narrowing the technology gap.
Information Technology Director Keshnel Penny didn't mince words about the city's approach, saying, "This achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of our Information Technology team, city leadership, and all city departments who consistently collaborate to push the boundaries of digital innovation." According to the City of Grand Prairie, the recognition is more than just a shiny accolade—it's proof of its ongoing commitment to a tech-forward community that positions residents for a better quality of life and economic prosperity.
The Digital Cities Survey examines how cities leverage technology to streamline services, fortify digital defenses, protect online privacy, and creatively tackle modern urban challenges. Grand Prairie's sixth-place ranking in the 125,000 to 249,000 population group testifies to its prowess in these domains. "We are proud to be a part of this transformative journey and remain dedicated to advancing Grand Prairie as a digital leader among cities," Penny commented on the milestone per the city's press release.
A few initiatives that helped Grand Prairie stand out include the implementation of Barracuda Email Protection Premium Plus, which was instrumental in intercepting roughly 105,000 suspect emails monthly. Updates to firewalls, equipped with threat intelligence feeds, were critical, fending off more than 2 million malicious URLs and IP connections within a week.
