In the heart of Grand Rapids, Mel Trotter Ministries once again opens its doors wide to gather the community around a bounteous Thanksgiving table. Partners such as The Gilmore Collection and Noco Provisions have come together to ensure that the 28th annual community meal not only offers food but fosters togetherness during the season. A staggering amount of food will be prepared with Mel Trotter anticipating to serve over 2,000 meals this afternoon at DeVos Place, as reported by WZZM13.
The Gilmore Collection is set to provide 180 turkeys while Noco Provisions will supply 2,400 pounds of potatoes, augmenting a culinary operation vast enough to include 3,000 dinner rolls, 240 pounds of stuffing, 700 pounds of green beans, 700 pounds of candied carrots, and an impressive 60 gallons of gravy. The meal prep, according to FOX 17, is to start at 5 a.m., with doors opening from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
This event reaches beyond simply providing a meal. It is an acknowledgment of deeper community needs, recognizing the hardships many face with food insecurity and the lack of affordable housing. More than 500 volunteers are to work tirelessly to ensure the success of the event, which is free and open to anyone in need of food, shelter, friendship, or all the above, as noted by WGVU News.
