The spirit of Christmas has taken root in downtown Grand Rapids with the installation of a 36-foot concolor fir as the community's central holiday emblem. According to a report by FOX 17, the City of Grand Rapids, in collaboration with Rockford Construction and additional partners, initiated the placement of the festive tree at Rosa Parks Circle early this morning.
Under the veil of pre-dawn, Rockford Construction's crews, harnessing the strength of a crane and boom lift, delicately positioned the tree into its seasonal place of honor; a tree not just selected at random but one with indigenous roots, harvested from the City's very own Indian Trails Golf Course, as the morning unfolded securing the tree firmly into a meticulously prepared base, public attendance was not encouraged for the installation due to risk management concerns, but citizens are invited to the forthcoming tree lighting ceremony post the Santa Parade on December 7 at 5 p.m., as stated by FOX 17.
Evette Pittman, the Special Events Manager for Grand Rapids, expressed excitement for this year's tree, which brings a piece of the local environment to the holiday celebrations, "Our Indian Trails Golf Course had a tree that needed to be harvested. And so we called Rockford Construction, our Christmas elves as we like to call them here in the city, and we had them go take a look at it and they were able to harvest the tree for us," Pittman divulged in an interview with WZZM 13.
The tree will soon shimmer brightly with over 50,000 LED lights, adding allure to the city's festive decor, with downtown merchants also contributing to the yuletide ambiance, hosting specials and decorating their storefronts to reflect the season's joy—and this collective effort, aiming to create a magical holiday atmosphere in Grand Rapids, is further complemented by the Secchia family's sponsorship of the tree this year, illuminating the circle with a twinling radiance, that punctuates the efforts taken to bring the community together in celebration, as reported by MLive.
