Butts County is slated for a technological and economic infusion as GreenBox Systems LLC, a company specializing in automated warehouse services, is investing $144 million into a new distribution facility. Announced by Governor Brian P. Kemp, this move by GreenBox is expected to generate over 300 jobs in the area, marking a significant growth opportunity for local employment and economic diversification.
The initiative is a testimony to Georgia's commitment to attracting cutting-edge industries to the state. Governor Kemp highlighted the state's efforts, "Our world-class education institutions, incredible workforce development initiatives like Georgia MATCH and Georgia Quick Start, and our partnership approach are bringing new opportunities for hardworking Georgians to every zip code," he said in an announcement reported by State of Georgia Government. The new facility will span approximately 1 million square feet at The Cubes at RiverPark in Jackson, and, will harness AI technology to streamline supply chain processes for retailers.
Operations are expected to commence in late 2025, with the company planning to open positions for automation operators and managers, forklift operators, and various other roles within logistics and maintenance. GreenBox's aim is to revolutionize the retail supply chain through advanced warehouse automation technology provided by Symbotic Inc., promising to enhance efficiency and accuracy. As stated by Vikas J. Parekh, Managing Partner at SoftBank Investment Advisers and Board Director of GreenBox, the company is "thrilled to bring AI-powered warehouse services to Georgia and help increase the efficiency, accuracy, and safety of the supply chain in a capital efficient manner," according to the State of Georgia Government.
Local officials have welcomed GreenBox with open arms, showcasing Butts County's ability to attract high-quality industries. Butts County Board of Commissioners Chairman Russ Crumbley said, welcoming a company like GreenBox shows that the county has positioned itself as an attractive location for businesses. "We have always worked to find ways to improve our tax base with the least amount of impact on the quality of life we have in Butts County," Crumbley commented, as noted in the State of Georgia Government.
Elizabeth McLean, Assistant Director of Statewide Projects, alongside the Butts County Development Authority, Georgia Quick Start, Georgia Power, and the Metro Atlanta Chamber, facilitated this venture for the Georgia Department of Economic Development. Pat Wilson, GDEcD Commissioner, expressed that GreenBox exemplifies the technological advancements revolutionizing logistics and creating skilled jobs. “The Technical College System of Georgia remains engaged with industries to better understand which skills are in high demand and, then works to develop programs that address those growth opportunities.
