An Oakland County woman has lost her life following a two-vehicle collision in Springfield Township. Authorities identified the deceased as 34-year-old Renee Marie Vilders from Groveland Township, who was involved in the fatal crash on Wednesday night.
According to the Detroit News, the incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. when Vilders was driving her 2023 Chevrolet Equinox eastward on Holly Road. Reports indicate she failed to properly stop at a stop sign at the Dixie Highway intersection, crashing into a northbound GMC Sierra pickup truck driven by a 64-year-old man, also from Groveland Township.
After the collision, both vehicles were forced off the road, and Vilders' car ultimately flipped onto its side against some trees. As detailed by ClickOnDetroit, Vilders was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck and his 61-year-old passenger were transported to the hospital by Springfield Township and Groveland Township Fire Department paramedics, where they were listed in stable condition.
While it is yet to be determined whether alcohol was a factor, officials have confirmed that seatbelts were worn by all parties involved at the collision's time. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is continuing to actively investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident, as noted by WWJ Newsradio. An autopsy for Vilders is currently pending.
