Tragedy struck the Harris County Constable Office Precinct #5, when Deputy Constable Katherine Hutson and her daughter, Kacey, died in a car crash caused by a suspected drunk driver on the Katy Freeway. The Plano Police Department has announced, through a social media post, that all sworn officers will band their badges to honor Deputy Hutson's memory and service.
The heartbreaking incident occurred last Friday while Deputy Hutson, a single mother, was on an extra-duty assignment to keep road construction workers safe. Her vehicle was rear-ended and burst into flames, leading to her and her 7-year-old daughter's death. According to the Plano Texas Police Department, the driver of the other vehicle and a passenger survived the collision without serious injuries.
The Plano Police Chief, Ed Drain, expressed condolences via social media, asking the public to keep the family and the department in their thoughts and prayers. The Houston Police Department is heading the criminal investigation with the Harris County District Attorney's Office tackling potential criminal charges.
