LAPD's engagement in the chase began after reports of the stolen vehicle, with the suspect eventually detected and followed by officers. As reported by NBC Los Angeles, the suspect was traveling southbound on Mason Avenue in a vehicle described as a white SUV with cold plates. The failed attempt to evade police ended when he collided with a Tesla driving westbound on Saticoy Street, which led to the death of the driver, a woman in her 40s. The name of the victim was not immediately released pending notification of next of kin.
Witnesses at the scene depicted the wreckage with mournful tones, underscoring the terrible loss suffered in the blink of an eye. "Words won't describe what I saw. It was sad," a witness conveyed to ABC7. On the scene, authorities took the male suspect, who is in his early 40s, into custody after he reportedly attempted to flee on foot following the crash.
