On a wind-whipped yesterday afternoon, Honolulu Ocean Safety was swiftly in action, responding to distress calls off the shores of Waikiki and Waimea Bay. Two paddle boarders found themselves to be quickly pushed out to sea near the Hilton Hawaiian Village at around 1 p.m. and struggled to make their way back to the welcoming arms of the shore. According to KITV, Ocean Safety's lifeguards were able to rescue both individuals, ensuring their safety amidst the daunting challenge presented by the high winds.
The need for vigilance was echoed later that day, when a man and woman decided to go kite foiling out on the waters of Waimea Bay. They were to soon find themselves in a struggle against the might of the wind. The pair was situated approximately three miles offshore when Ocean Safety intervened, as reported by KHON2. While the man was able to return to shore independently, his companion required the assistance of rescue crews. Both instances concluded without injury, but not without imparting a reminder of the ocean's unpredictable temperament.
