Hilliard community standout Maggie West has been named the recipient of the 2024 Ohio Parks and Recreation Association's Outstanding Youth Leadership Award, a nod to her notable service and leadership in the local community. According to an official announcement from the City of Hilliard, West, a seasoned City of Hilliard lifeguard and active community volunteer, was lauded for her positive influence and dedication during a quaint reception on Wednesday, Nov. 13.
West has distinguished herself as a steadfast professional in her role with the aquatic staff, consistently demonstrating vigor and enthusiasm. What was undoubtedly a surprise was that the award was presented to her in front of family and friends at the Recreation and Parks Advisory Committee meeting. She will be honored at the OPRA Conference scheduled for Feb. 4, where her contributions will be spotlighted.
Maggie West's achievements don't stop at the poolside. Her off-duty volunteerism has made waves across Hilliard, with one of her standout efforts being her dedication to the Cool Tech Girls program. She's actively championed the mentorship of young girls interested in STEM fields, working to ensure a supportive environment for the upcoming generation of leaders in science and technology.
The City of Hilliard reported that her involvement in Cool Tech Girls has substantially impacted the community, offering a testament to how leaders like West can shape a more inclusive future. As a mentor, West has poured countless hours into ensuring young girls see no barriers to pursuing STEM careers, contributing to a lasting legacy for Hilliard's youth. The forthcoming OPRA Conference in February will commemorate her service and underscore the importance of such committed youth leadership.
