Hillsborough County Announces Thanksgiving Closures and Service Schedules, Waste Management Resumes FridaySource: Unsplash/Megan Watson

Hillsborough County is setting the stage for the Thanksgiving holiday by closing its offices and facilities tomorrow and Friday. This announcement, which impacts residents' access to various services, comes as the county prepares for the seasonal celebration.

According to official statements, there will be no collection of garbage, recyclables, or yard waste on Thanksgiving Day, with the closure extending to all disposal sites. However, an exception exists for two temporary debris collection sites, they remain open throughout the holiday. Regular waste collection services for those in the unincorporated areas of Hillsborough County, including neighborhoods like Tampa Palms and Hunter's Green, will resume on Friday.

For residents who normally have their waste collected on Thursdays, the county advises that normal service will restart on the next scheduled day. Normalcy in waste management signals a transition from a day of rest back to the rhythm of daily life for the community.

While most facilities shut their doors on Thanksgiving, the county has made provisions for the disposal of storm debris. All disposal facilities will reopen on Friday, with locations such as the Southeast County Landfill and the Northwest and South County transfer stations back in full swing. Simultaneously, curbside storm debris collection is slated to pick up again on Saturday, catering to the ongoing needs of residents amid clean-up efforts.

Outdoor enthusiasts and pet owners should note the mixed schedule for parks. The county's conservation parks and skate parks will take a Thanksgiving pause, however, all dog parks are sticking to their usual schedule, welcoming visitors tomorrow and Friday.
