Broward County is set to witness an upgrade in the safety features surrounding its school zones, with improvements kickstarting at Oakridge Elementary School in Hollywood and Broward Estates Elementary School in Lauderhill. Beginning today, the Public Works' Department of Highway Construction and Engineering Division will direct its efforts to enhance the safeguarding of these bustling student-populated areas.
Key upgrades include the switch to solar LED ground flashers, which promise to deliver an eco-friendly and more durable solution compared to their power-operated predecessors. This shift seeks to fully capture, and smartly utilize, the sun's bounty—a task equally as essential as it is complex to quickly implement. Pavement markings are also set for a refresh, and school-related signage will be brought up to date, according to a statement from the Broward County Government.
Funded by the Penny for Transportation surtax, these Mobility Advancement Program projects signal a tangible commitment to advancing the region's infrastructural integrity. The investment, both in terms of finance and foresight, is set for conclusion in February 2025, drawing a line of anticipation in the hearts of parents and educators alike.
To minimize disruption, contractor personnel and inspection staff should work closely with local residents and businesses.
