Houston's local sensation, La Hacienda Bakery, has recently hit the jackpot with its pumpkin spice-filled conchas, a seasonal spin on the beloved Mexican sweet bread — and the demand is through the roof. As per an Eater Houston article, these stuffed conchas have racked up over a million views on social media and are selling out quickly with the bakery churning out thousands per day to keep up.
Not just a local thrill, these conchas have found themselves to be a national sensation after a feature on Good Morning America. Owner Leslie Rangel has had to consider to quickly expand her workforce to meet the swelling demand. "We never thought it was going to grow so big in a matter of days," Rangel reflects in an emotional Instagram video, expressing her gratitude towards the unexpectedly overwhelming support.
The phenomenon of these pumpkin spice treasures at La Hacienda Bakery has also been highlighted in a YouTube clip by KHOU 11, where Rangel expresses living "like I'm living a dream." The bakery, according to Rangel, had a modest beginning with sales of around 50 conchas on weekends but has surged to more than 2,000 a day after the pumpkin spice version went viral on TikTok.
Even amid the bustling success, the bakery has encountered its fair share of challenges. The viral conchas left La Hacienda struggling to keep up with the logistics of shipping nationwide. According to the Eater Houston article, a waitlist for the desired pastries was consequently established, and the bakery has promised to extend the offering period of the pumpkin spice conchas through November to answer to the demand of fans who just can't get enough.
