A Houston woman is facing serious charges after she allegedly inflicted life-threatening injuries on a 4-year-old girl who was in her care. The child, identified as Londlyn Anthony, is currently in critical condition at Texas Children’s Hospital. Tameria Barnett, 30, has been arrested and charged with injury to a child after the girl was found with signs that suggested ongoing abuse.
Authorities say the girl had been living with Barnett while her mother is incarcerated, a situation that began in September. According to a statement by Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez which was obtained by Click2Houston, the young girl endured what may have been daily abuse for several months. Found by deputies, Barnett was subsequently taken into custody.
In a turn of events, Barnett’s bond was set at $100,000 during her appearance in probable cause court yesterday evening. As the egregious nature of the child's injuries became apparent, HCSO's homicide unit took up the investigation, recognizing the signs of severe abuse on the child who had been rushed to the hospital on Tuesday.
It is reported there has been no contact with the child’s father since September. Social media posts by Sheriff Gonzalez, relayed the extent of the abuse allegations, saying the child was "allegedly beaten daily for months," as reported by ABC13. The case continues to develop as Barnett awaits further legal proceedings while being held at the Harris County Jail.
