An early morning incident in Houston's East End saw a police officer narrowly escaping injury after his vehicle erupted in flames following a collision with a construction site. As reported by FOX 26 Houston, the crash occurred at approximately 3 a.m. on East Navigation Blvd, near Avenue H, where the unnamed officer was responding to a call.
The circumstances surrounding the accident, as stated by the Houston Police Department to Click2Houston, detailed that the officer, while navigating the roadway, overcorrected the patrol vehicle and as a consequence, the mistake sent it careening into a nearby construction zone this causing him to swerve into the construction zone. In a fortunate turn of events, the officer was able to extricate himself from the vehicle before it was engulfed in flames, escaping with only minor injuries to his wrist.
The Houston police department further clarified that no other vehicles or individuals were implicated in this single-vehicle mishap. The crash scene, marred by the smoldering wreck of the police cruiser, was cordoned off for investigation, ensuring the area was secure for the East End residents awakening to the commotion.
