Authorities in Houston are intensifying the search for 52-year-old Alvaro Lovos, who is wanted in connection with a fatal machete attack on his neighbor, 67-year-old Charlie Wilson. The incident, which took place last week, involved Wilson being struck over 20 times, as confirmed by Houston Police Department officers. Police have obtained surveillance footage showing the suspect repeatedly hitting Wilson, with the majority of the blows targeting his head and neck, according to Click2Houston.
Further details disclosed by authorities indicate that Lovos is now officially charged with murder. The deadly attack occurred on the 6900 block of Hirsch Road, where tragically, Wilson was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead by the Houston Fire Department personnel. In an attempt to quickly apprehend Lovos, officials are urging anyone with information on his whereabouts to promptly contact the HPD Homicide Division or submit tips anonymously to Crime Stoppers, as seen in statements obtained by ABC13.
ABC13 reports that when Wilson's family arrived at the scene, they found Lovos covered in blood and speaking with them, claiming that he had seen two other men killing Wilson. Despite this interaction and Wilson's family's raised alarm, Lovos was not detained at the scene, a decision that has been met with concern and confusion.
Charlie Wilson is remembered by his family and an officer on the scene as a "good guy," according to ABC13. He frequently contributed to the neighborhood by working odd jobs, including helping out at the corner store near where his body was discovered. Lovos himself is reported to have lived in an apartment above the same store, with Lovos being a regular customer identified later as the assailant in the footage sourced from the convenience store's surveillance system.
With the suspect still at large, Wilson's brother, Willie Ray Wilson, expressed his determination in a statement to ABC13, saying, "They're gonna get him. He can run, but he can't hide." This highlights the family's call for justice and their confidence that the police will eventually apprehend the alleged murderer.
