Earlier today, two Houston police officers were involved in a dangerous pursuit after a suspect attempted to flee, resulting in one officer being dragged and a patrol car crashing into a tree. The chase began shortly before midnight on Richmond Avenue when the officers, who had smelled marijuana, stopped a driver who had run a red light and asked him to exit the vehicle.
The driver refused to comply and attempted to flee, with one officer getting caught in the door and dragged before falling to the ground. Despite the situation, she regained her composure and, along with the other officer, quickly returned to their patrol car. According to KHOU, "She gets dragged a little ways. Goes down but immediately gets back up. Her and her partner get back in the vehicle, police vehicle she was driving. They make it over to Woodland park in this direction and they lose control and hit this tree," HPD Lt. Willkens said.
Although their vehicle eventually collided with a tree, the officers continued their pursuit and located the suspect at a nearby apartment complex. As per Click2Houston, the suspect is now facing multiple charges, including evading arrest and aggravated assault on a police officer.
Fortunately, both officers are expected to make a full recovery, with their injuries not preventing them from continuing their duties. The incident is under a thorough investigation to ensure all aspects are examined and appropriate actions are taken.
