The saga of a Seminole County carjacking that resulted in the death of Katherine Altagracia Guerrero De Aguasvivas takes a complex turn with her husband, Miguel Aguasvivas-Lizardo, now facing federal charges. In a report from ClickOrlando, Miguel has been indicted for conspiracy to engage in money laundering. The indictment follows an April incident where Katherine was carjacked and subsequently found dead in Osceola County.
The case, which has caught the nation's attention after surveillance footage of the harrowing carjacking went viral, involves hefty sums tied to illicit drug trafficking. According to FOX 35 Orlando, investigators allege Katherine traveled to Central Florida from South Florida to collect $170,000 linked to the drug trade. Her journey, prosecutors suggest, was part of a broader operation involving currency exchange for drug organizations, a dangerous sphere where her husband supposedly played a significant role.
In a statement detailed by FOX 35 Orlando, U.S. Attorney Roger Handberg explained the inherent risks of the drug trafficking business, remarking, "Anytime anyone is involved in drug trafficking, whether distributing drugs themselves or involved in money, what I've seen from over two decades as a federal prosecutor is violence often goes hand in hand." The indictment claims that Aguasvivas-Lizardo and others would pick up cash in Orlando and return to South Florida, where the money was converted to cryptocurrency and handed over to drug entities.
As the fifth person to face indictment in connection to this devastating incident, Miguel Aguasvivas-Lizardo could face up to 20 years in prison if found guilty of the charges.
