Travelers along Interstate 10 near Van Horn, Texas, experienced delays and redirections yesterday morning following a collision involving two semi-trucks. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) confirmed that the accident occurred at Interstate 10 West at Mile Marker 146, approximately 5 miles east of Van Horn. KTSM reported that the incident led to the temporary shutdown of all westbound lanes.
According to a spokesperson from the Texas Department of Public Safety, cited by KFOX-TV, the crash transpired "Due to backed-up traffic in a construction zone." The sequence of events started when a truck tractor-semitrailer was struck from behind by another while it was in the right lane. While the first truck driver reported no injuries, the other driver was taken to a nearby hospital for minor injuries and preventive measures.
Initial reports indicated significant traffic disruptions, with TxDOT estimating two hours needed to clear the site, per KTSM. Affected motorists were advised to exit I-10 at Michigan Flat and continue westbound along the service road. Subsequently, the road's status was updated, with all lanes of I-10 West reopening as cleanup efforts concluded.
