Early Thursday morning, a crash involving three pickup trucks towing large tandem axle camper trailers closed westbound I-94 near Johnson Creek. The incident occurred at the WIS 26 exit around 3:55 a.m., and emergency crews were sent to the scene, as reported by FOX6 News.
The Johnson Creek Fire Department reported that the crash was caused by icy road conditions, which are common at this time of year. According to a statement from WKOW, authorities found all westbound lanes blocked by damaged vehicles and debris. Both trucks were severely damaged, and one of the campers was destroyed.
Despite the severity of the accident and significant vehicle damage, the occupants only sustained minor injuries. The westbound lanes of I-94 were closed for several hours, causing detours for morning commuters. Drivers were redirected to County Highway F in Concord, then County Highway B through Farmington to Johnson Creek, and finally Aztalan before rejoining Highway 89 in Lake Mills. The lanes reopened around 8:15 a.m. after emergency and cleanup crews cleared the site, allowing traffic to resume, as detailed by Channel 3000.
