
Hunters across Illinois have kicked off the first weekend of firearm deer season, yielding a preliminary count of 54,661 deer, marking a slight increase from previous years, as reported by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. During the corresponding weekends in the past two years, hunters harvested 53,348 and 52,354 deer, respectively. The firearm deer season, which began on November 22 and wrapped up its first stint on November 24, will resume for its second and final phase from December 5-8. Hunters looking, for more opportunities will be able to participate in the muzzleloader-only deer season running from Dec. 13-15, and in select counties, the late-winter antlerless-only and chronic wasting disease deer seasons are scheduled for December 26-29 and January 17-19. However, it's important to remember the archery deer season continues through January 19 but will be on pause during the days when firearm hunting is permitted in certain counties.
