An injured hiker was successfully rescued from the Sunset Pillbox Trail on Tuesday evening, according to the Honolulu Fire Department. The call for help came at 6:31 p.m., with HFD dispatching six units and 17 personnel to the scene, as reported on the department's official website.
The first responders arrived at the trailhead at 6:40 p.m. and proceeded on foot to reach the hiker. The injured individual was on the descent from the trail when they sustained an injury that precluded them from continuing unassisted. HFD personnel found the hiker by 7:20 p.m., conducted an initial medical assessment, and administered basic life support.
Following the on-site treatment, the hiker was airlifted by Air 1 to a nearby landing zone. At 7:55 p.m., emergency medical services took over the care of the hiker. The operation was executed smoothly, with all HFD members returning without injury. The report did not include details regarding the nature or severity of the hiker's injuries.
