Her condition quickly worsened, and a week after her illness began, she passed away in the hospital yesterday. In custody since August 8, her death emphasizes issues around healthcare access and quality in the prison system. The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office will investigate the circumstances of the inmate's death, as required by state laws. The Sacramento County Coroner's Office is responsible for determining the cause of death, and its findings have not yet been released. They will also disclose the inmate's name following standard protocol.
