Authorities report a tractor-trailer crash involving a pickup truck closed northbound and southbound lanes on Interstate 97 today. Accident debris and a sizeable emergency response are affecting traffic near the Millersville Road overpass and the ramp to westbound Route 32. WBALTV detailed that the tractor-trailer had overturned, blocking both northbound lanes.
Further complicating the traffic situation, southbound I-97 was closed after noon, briefly, as a Maryland State Police Medevac helicopter touched down, revealed by the same crew that observed the tractor-trailer tipped onto its side in the Millersville area. FOX Baltimore reported that the lanes should reopen once the helicopter leaves the scene, with its presence necessitated due to the crash's severity.
The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) confirmed two vehicles were involved in the crash, and first responders quickly attended to make the area safe. Information regarding the nature of any injuries or the cause of the crash has not been forthcoming yet. Commuters are advised to seek alternative routes and expect delays in the area.
