
A body was discovered in a Phoenix canal Saturday afternoon, and local authorities have launched an investigation. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the body was found near 22nd Avenue and Indian School. The vicinity was closed off as the Phoenix Police and Fire Departments examined the scene.
Officials revealed that firefighters were first to respond, encountering the body of an adult floating within the canal. Efforts by technical rescue teams to recover the body were successful, however, the individual was declared beyond resuscitation. A crime scene response unit is present, but so far, the authorities have not commented on the cause of death, and the investigation is ongoing.
Sgt. Rob Scherer of the Phoenix Police Department told AZ Central that officers responded to reports of a potential body in the water just before 1:45 p.m. The location was near 19th Avenue and Indian School Road, a short distance from where the body was eventually retrieved.
Upon their arrival, Phoenix officers discovered the man in the water and coordinated with the fire department to recover him, he was pronounced dead at the scene. At this early stage in the investigation, nothing overtly suspicious has been reported. However, the surrounding area remained closed, as detectives continued their work at the site. Sgt. Scherer refrained from providing more specifics, citing the active status of the case. More details are expected as the investigation unfolds.
