A serious incident in Fort Collins is under investigation after a vehicle struck a pedestrian on E. Mulberry St. The Fort Collins Police were called to the scene yesterday shortly after the collision occurred at around 4:19 p.m. As per the City of Fort Collins, a 50-year-old woman was found unconscious following the collision and was swiftly taken to the hospital with grave injuries.
The accident compelled the Closure of the westbound section of Mulberry for three and a half hours, as the Collision Reconstruction And Scene Handling (CRASH) team worked to carefully unravel the circumstances of the crash. It appears the Subaru Outback was heading west in the inner lane when it collided with the pedestrian, who was attempting to cross from north to south but was not using a crosswalk. The victim's companion chose to not cross the street, perhaps seeing the approaching danger.
In the aftermath of this tragic incident, Sgt. David Lindsay, from the CRASH team, underscored the importance of pedestrian vigilance and adherence to safety practices. "Utilizing crosswalks and walking defensively are the best measures for pedestrians to ensure their safety," said Sgt. Lindsay, as obtained by the City of Fort Collins. He highlighted the necessity for pedestrians to be focussed, to use well-lit crosswalks, and to obey crossing signals.
