Outside Pirrung Elementary School in Mesquite, an individual sustained gunshot injuries on a quiet school holiday afternoon. According to FOX 4, the Mesquite Police Department is currently investigating the incident which occurred Monday, with images captured by SKY 4 showing law enforcement and crime scene tape cordoning off the school's parking lot.
Investigators were seen combing the surrounding area for evidence, accompanied by a K-9 unit, painstakingly searching the grass outside the school building. While there were thankfully no children on the premises, since the Mesquite ISD schools are closed for the week of Thanksgiving, one person was, however, reported taken to the hospital in an unknown condition by police.
At this time, official details remain scarce, with no updates available on the health status of the victim. WFAA notes that the police have not released any information regarding potential suspects or arrests in connection to the shooting.
