A 27-year-old man in Jacksonville is facing charges in the shooting death of his father, according to local authorities. Garry Charles Bartlett Jr. has been accused of murder following the discovery of his 69-year-old father, Garry Charles Bartlett Sr., with multiple gunshot wounds in a Deercreek area home. As reported by News4JAX, Bartlett Jr. appeared in court this morning without the bond following his arrest.
Law enforcement responded to a call from the 7000 block of Fawn Lake Drive South shortly after 8 a.m. yesterday. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) identified the body of the man at the scene as Bartlett Sr., launching an immediate investigation. First Coast News cited several neighbors who reported a quiet father and son living at the home, with one resident expressing shock over the incident: "Nice people from what all I knew, kept to themselves," said neighbor Ron Holden. "I don’t know much about the family themselves. I’m just totally surprised by the whole situation, for this neighborhood for sure.”
The JSO’s investigation involved their Homicide Unit, Crime Scene Unit, as well as partners from the State Attorney’s Office. Following a careful review of the evidence and an interview with Bartlett Jr., he was taken into custody. Jacksonville Sheriff's Office X post confirmed the arrest and the booking of Bartlett Jr. into the Duval County jail on murder charges.
