The deadlock was broken late in the second period when Alexis Lafreniere capitalized on a pass from Artemi Panarin, extending Panarin's point-scoring streak to seven games. As per the official NHL Kraken news page, the assist from the left boards found Lafreniere perfectly placed for an easy goal. The Kraken's efforts to respond were thwarted, even after a long stretch pass from Jamie Oleksiak to Brandon Tanev, which could have swung the momentum but was successfully disrupted by the Rangers' defense.
Adding insult to injury, defenseman Zac Jones doubled the Rangers lead in the third period, following a rush that he himself started in the defensive zone. Jones' shot found its way through Kraken goaltender Philipp Grubauer, who had managed 21 saves throughout the game. This goal, a blemish on an otherwise steady performance by Grubauer, was detailed by CBS News New York, noting the puck's unfortunate path through Grubauer's defenses.
Despite the loss, the Kraken's defense earned some praise. Ryker Evans, showing growing confidence, took more risks in the offensive zone and has posted impressive stats—three goals and eight assists in 18 games, with four assists during the current homestand. Alongside Adam Larsson, Evans has been solid defensively. Late in the second period, Chandler Stephenson nearly capitalized on a rebound, but the Kraken couldn’t convert their chances against Jonathan Quick, who remained strong in goal for the Rangers.
