
Boulder County sheriff’s deputies, while conducting increased patrols due to recent shootings, apprehended two juveniles after a car chase through unincorporated Boulder County. They were heard firing gunshots from a moving vehicle late last night, according to Boulder County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred around 10:50 p.m. near 119th Street and Oxford Road, when deputies spotted and pursued the suspect vehicle as it traveled northbound, firing rounds from a handgun.
During the chase that extended into the City of Longmont, Longmont Police officers did not engage in the pursuit but assisted at its end, after the suspects' vehicle stopped on its own near the 300 block of S. Sunset Street, leading to the arrest and recovery of a handgun along with several rounds from the juveniles, no injuries were reported from the confrontation or during the arrest. The apprehended youths are now facing multiple charges including Eluding, Reckless Driving, Driving Without a Valid Driver’s License, and various weapons and drug paraphernalia-related offenses, as per the sheriff's office.
Motivations behind the suspects targeting this specific area or their choice of targets remain unknown at this time with investigations ongoing. The Boulder County sheriff’s office has not disclosed if the recent spate of shootings in the area is directly connected to these individuals or if there is a larger issue at hand. It’s further explained that the juveniles were booked with charges that encompass Eluding, Reckless Driving, Driving Without a Valid Driver’s License, Prohibited Use of a Weapon (5 counts), Possession of a Handgun by a Juvenile (5 counts), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Community safety concerns have been heightened due to this series of events. The Boulder County sheriff’s office reassured residents that no bystanders or law enforcement personnel were harmed during the incidents and has requested anyone with information to come forward to aid the investigation and contribute to resolving the increasing unrest brought on by these incidents.
