Concord Lake STEAM Academy in Kannapolis is facing a serious scandal involving both a teacher and the principal. According to WBTV, the principal, Kendra Woods, has been arrested under charges of failing to report the alleged sexual assault of a minor by a teacher at the school.
The Kannapolis Police Department stated they received a complaint that prompted them to thoroughly investigate the allegations. During their inquiry, they arrested Tyler Woods, a teacher at the academy, who has now been charged with three counts of indecent liberties with a child. According to WCCB Charlotte, Tyler Woods is also facing charges for disseminating obscenity to a minor and permitting a minor to assist in obscenity.
Both individuals involved in the case are reported to not be related. Kendra Woods, a 42-year-old from Charlotte, is accused of one count of failure to report abuse and one count failure to report crimes against juveniles. This comes following a complaint that the principal did not fulfill her legal duty to report an alleged crime within the school, as WCNC reports. After her arrest, she posted bond and is expected to have her first court appearance on December 30.
The details surrounding the complaint that sparked the investigation are sparse, but the accusations against Tyler Woods are grave. The 23-year-old teacher's arrest led to him receiving a sizable bond of $100,000 at the Cabarrus County Jail. The police are actively encouraging anyone with information connected to this case to immediately reach out to them to possibly assist the ongoing investigation.
