A controversy has emerged in San Antonio's King William neighborhood over a Krampus parade scheduled for December. Mark Lugo, Pastor of San Antonio Impact Ministries, voiced his concerns in a KSAT interview, stating, "This Krampus parade, it’s a demon that comes in and drags all the naughty kids to Hell.” Critics argue that the event does not reflect the city's values, while others are in favor of the festivities.
The parade, which aims to revive German culture, features a contrast between the demonic Krampus and the benevolent Saint Nick, sparking both support and criticism from the community. Some residents, like local Taylor Holland, are excited about the event. He shared, "I think it’s just a fun part of the tradition that has the opposite, more Halloween type of effect on people sort of like The Nightmare Before Christmas," as sated by Headtopics.
The parade will start at the Blue Star and go through the King William neighborhood on King William Street at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 5. Pastor Lugo, who opposes the event, said, "We’re saying we don’t want it." Some residents, like Zayne Michaelsen, feel differently but respect the right to hold the parade, saying, "I still don’t like it, but it’s their right to do it. It’s a free country." Organizers are inviting people to wear costumes, but it's still unclear if the parade will happen as scheduled, as reported by KSAT.
