Kirkland residents, take note and plan – the City of Kirkland has announced a scheduled road closure that might impact your weekend travels. Northeast 85th Street will be closed at Interstate 405 to facilitate ongoing construction efforts starting Friday, Nov. 15 at 11 p.m. According to details shared on the City of Kirkland's official website, the road is expected to remain closed until Monday, Nov. 18, reopening at 4 a.m.
For those planning to navigate the area, be aware that detour routes will be signed for drivers. While the full road closure is slated to commence later at night, preparations will necessitate lane reductions starting as early as 9 p.m., potentially complicating travel plans even before the full shutdown. The city, therefore, urges residents to prepare alternate routes to cross I-405.
The closure coincides with work on the NE 85th Street Interchange as part of the broader I-405 improvements. A recently released aerial image, taken on Wednesday, demonstrates the significant progress on the interchange, indicating that the closures are a necessary step toward completion and better traffic flow in the future.
