A Kissimmee man faces multiple charges after allegedly kidnapping two 4-year-olds and engaging in a car chase in a stolen vehicle on Wednesday. Jerome Ralph Garvin, 47, was apprehended in DeSoto County after deputies tried unsuccessfully pulling him over, prompting a pursuit, as reported by ClickOrlando.

The incident began in Henry County, where Garvin is accused of having stolen a vehicle with the children inside. While trying to escape law enforcement, he chose to quickly abandon the car—with the children still inside it—allegedly prioritizing his flight over their safety. In a social media statement from the DeSoto County Sheriff's Office, they noted, "His attempt to evade justice failed." This was echoed in a release noting that both DCSO deputies and Arcadia Police Department officers collaborated to track him down and apprehend him, as WFTV detailed.

The deputies safely rescued the two young children involved. Garvin's alleged recklessness has resulted in multiple charges being brought against him, including grand theft of a motor vehicle, fleeing to elude law enforcement, child neglect without great bodily harm, driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage, and resisting arrest.

Garvin, who is currently being held on no bond, has a reported extensive criminal history that includes prior offenses such as robbery, grand theft auto, and aggravated battery.
