Two men have been charged with the murder of Andres Garcia following a shooting incident in Muskegon last month. Robert Pompey Jr., 44, of Lakewood Club, and Benjamin Fields, 36, of Muskegon Heights, are facing open murder charges in connection with the death of 30-year-old Garcia. As WOODTV reports, Pompey was arraigned on November 7, with Fields' arraignment occurring yesterday.
On October 28, Garcia was fatally shot in his home located on Sophia Street near E Apple Avenue. The early hours of the day were marked by an incident that led emergency responders to rush to the scene in an attempt to save Garcia. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead while en route to the hospital. The Muskegon Police Department, responding to reports of shots fired, located Pompey and Fields, who have since been detained and charged, as per a statement shared by FOX 17.
While the motivation behind the shooting remains unreported, authorities have indicated that the event seemed "non-random" according to WZZM 13. Both suspects have documented histories of assault and domestic violence. During the hearings, Pompey was denied bond, while Fields' bond was set at $700,000.
The court will reconvene on December 3 for Fields, while Pompey had his hearing on Tuesday. As the Muskegon Police Department continues its investigation, they are requesting the public to provide any relevant information. Tips can be submitted anonymously through Silent Observer or directly to investigators. Further details may be released as the investigation progresses.
