Lancaster County is on alert as police intensify their search for John Michels, a 39-year-old man suspected of a hit-and-run incident last month. According to ABC27, Michels is charged with aggravated assault by vehicle among other offenses.
As reported by FOX43, the incident occurred on Oct. 21, around 9:06 a.m., when police responded to the 100 block of River Drive in Lancaster Township. Having sustained serious injuries, the elderly victim was hospitalized. Her dog was also hurt in the incident, with the vehicle responsible described as a dark 4-door sedan by witnesses at the scene.
Witnesses' collaboration with the authorities led to the identification of the vehicle, assisted in part by a Maryland registration plate, which matched a car seen driving erratically on Route 30 West. The Manheim Township Police Department was also aided by surveillance and dash camera footage that solidified Michels as a suspect. An arrest warrant was issued for Michels yesterday, but his current location remains unknown.
