The Los Angeles Police Department is currently searching for a driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident in the San Fernando Valley. According to a KTLA report, a 57-year-old Hispanic male pedestrian was struck by a white Dodge Charger while crossing Terra Bella Street at Dorrington Avenue at approximately 9:20 p.m. on November 27. The vehicle, which was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed, failed to stop and provide aid to the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The LAPD's Valley Traffic Division detectives are leading an extensive investigation into the incident. As per the official LAPD news release, the victim was in an unmarked crosswalk when the collision occurred. The identity of the victim has not been released as the investigation is ongoing. The officers urge anyone with information to come forward and contact Investigator Takishita at the Valley Traffic Division.
Los Angeles has faced a persistent issue with hit-and-run incidents over the years. To address this, the Los Angeles City Council amended the city's administrative code back in April 2015, establishing the Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. This program offers a monetary reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to an offender's apprehension and conviction, as detailed by the LAPD.
The public has been urged to help ensure justice is served by contacting 1-877-LAPD-24-7 for after-hours information or by going anonymously to LA Crime Stoppers via their website or the "P3 Tips" mobile application.
