U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Laredo's World Trade Bridge made a major drug bust this week, confiscating over 400 pounds of methamphetamine with a street value of $3.7 million. The narcotics seizure represents a critical interception of illegal drugs destined for streets across the nation, as reported by CBP.
The substantial find unfolded on Monday when a CBP officer referred a tractor-trailer, allegedly carrying crushed marble stone, for further inspection. With the assistance of a non-intrusive inspection system and CBP canines, officers conducted a secondary examination. According to the official CBP release, during the meticulous search, they unearthed 66 hidden packages containing nearly 423 pounds of alleged methamphetamine.
"This significant seizure of methamphetamine by our frontline CBP officers underscores the reality of the drug threat they face on a daily basis and exemplifies their determination and resolve to uphold CBP’s priority border security mission," Port Director Albert Flores conveyed the gravity of the incident, as noted by the news release. The narcotics, estimated to street value of approximately $3,779,994, were promptly seized along with the trailer. After the seizure, special agents from Homeland Security Investigations took over, launching a criminal probe to trace the origins and intended distribution of the drugs.
