After a months-long investigation, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) has arrested a man in connection with a series of burglaries along the Spring Mountain corridor and beyond that have plagued local businesses since June. News3LV reports that Cedric Hasan, 34, was apprehended earlier this week and is linked to more than 30 burglaries, with losses exceeding $100,000.
Hasan's arrest comes after the LVMPD's plea for public assistance and the FBI offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect(s). These combined efforts included community tips and surveillance footage that depicted a suspect with a distinctive walk, clad in a hoodie and large work gloves. Despite these details, Hasan's identity eluded authorities for some time, according to Hoodline.
The affected community and targeted businesses were vital in the investigation, working closely with Metro Police during this period. Deputy Chief Jose Hernandez emphasized the cooperation with local business owners, stating, "Let this be a reminder to anyone who thinks that they can prey on this community and commit crimes in this city. The LVMPD will follow all leads in this investigation and leave no stone unturned," a sentiment reported by News3LV.
In response to the arrest, the community of Spring Mountain, particularly around Chinatown, where many of the crimes occurred, can breathe a sigh of relief. However, as detectives continue to investigate the possibility of additional, unknown burglarized locations, the full scope of Hasan's alleged crimes remains to be determined, as noted by KTNV.
As of now, Cedric Hasan faces 34 counts of theft and is due in court for proceedings tomorrow. While it hasn't been confirmed if the reward money led to his capture, the collaborative efforts between law enforcement and the Las Vegas community were crucial in bringing an end to this spree of burglaries that has affected over 30 businesses along the corridor.
