The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has announced overnight closures on Interstate 15 (I-15) in early December. Southbound lanes will close between Flamingo Road and Russell Road from 9:00 p.m. on December 3, to 5:00 a.m. on December 4. Northbound I-15 will be closed between Russell Road and Tropicana Avenue from 9:00 p.m. on December 4, to 5:00 a.m. on December 5. Several on- and off-ramps will also be unavailable during these closures.
As detailed by the Nevada Department of Transportation, the closures are needed to install Active Traffic Management (ATM) signs, which will enhance driver safety by providing real-time traffic updates, dynamic speed limits, and lane-use instructions. These signs, weighing between 46,000 and 105,000 pounds, represent a significant step in modernizing Southern Nevada’s highway system. Earlier in the week, northbound I-15 will narrow to three lanes between Hacienda Avenue and Flamingo Road, followed by a similar reduction for southbound I-15 between Flamingo Road and Hacienda Avenue. Drivers should expect delays and plan alternate routes where possible.
Nevada Department of Transportation announced that ten ATM signs being installed as part of the I-15/Tropicana project aim to enhance safety and could reduce secondary crashes by up to 30%. Given the heavy traffic in Southern Nevada, this improvement is significant. Drivers are urged to exercise extra caution while traveling through the work zones during construction.
Nevada Department of Transportation is helping commuters navigate these disruptions by partnering with Waze to share highway restrictions. Schedules may change due to weather or other factors, so drivers are encouraged to check updates at nvroads.com or call 511.
