The Gene Carey Animal Shelter and Adoption Center in Lewisville is hosting a holiday-themed fundraiser that promises to dress up your pet's holiday spirit. Set for Saturday, Nov. 23, from 1-4 p.m., the shelter invites pet owners to take pictures with Santa. A $10 minimum donation gets you instant digital photos, great for those Christmas cards you're planning to send out, as mentioned by the City of Lewisville's announcement.
While the event encourages all pet lovers to participate, some rules are put in place for the smoother running of the day. With no sign-up required, pet photos are first come, first served basis until 4 p.m. Dogs, required to be on their leash and to exhibit good behavior, will be posing without any mischief, while cats and small animals must remain in a hard-sided pet taxi while waiting to be photographed with Saint Nick, as described on the shelter's website.
Beyond the allure of Santa's lap, the event plays a dual role, functioning as a lifeline for the shelter animals in need. The money raised goes directly to the shelter's medical fund, assisting with the care and medical treatment of the animals. Enthusiasts must only bring their camera phones to snap those treasured moments, with the option to pay the donation either by cash or credit card, through the details provided by the City of Lewisville.
The shelter is offering even more reasons to visit, with adoption fees waived for all dogs over 20 pounds through Jan. 3, 2025. This move undoubtedly will give many animals a chance to find homes just in time for the holidays. All animals available for adoption can be seen by visiting lewisvillepets.com. And as the shelter puts it, "Santa can't wait to see you!"
