A fire that broke out at a two-story church in Harvard Heights was swiftly addressed by firefighters this afternoon. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), the blaze began at 2063 S Oxford Av, and moderate smoke was reported from the building. Firefighters were in the offensive mode and required additional task force support.
The fire escalated to Greater Alarm status, but the LAFD teams successfully made progress in combating the flames. "Interior fire attack located fire in the walls in a corner of the building," the LAFD noted, detailing the challenges faced while attempting to extinguish the fire that had also spread to a basement or crawlspace. Fortunately, there have been no injuries reported.
Ultimately, the situation was brought under control within 49 minutes by the composed action of 60 firefighters. The fire was effectively knocked down, and crews thoroughly inspected the church to chase and extinguish any remaining pockets of fire. "Crews had to locate and access fire within walls of one portion of the large church building and chase it through," the LAFD stated, confirming the clear status of the primary and secondary searches with no one located inside the church. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and no further details have been disclosed at this moment.
