On the early morning of November 1, 2024, a fatal shooting occurred at Michelobos Sports Bar on East Braker Lane, resulting in the death of one man and the hospitalization of another, who is now facing murder charges. As reported by the Austin Police Department (APD), officers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 1:43 a.m. following a Shoot/Stab Hotshot call, which denotes an urgent report of a shooting or stabbing.
Upon arrival at 900 East Braker Lane, officers found two individuals with gunshot wounds; the deceased was identified as Tyler Cochran, born on November 16, 1993, and the injured was 20-year-old Clayton Taitague, according to authorities, Cochran was pronounced dead at the scene, and Taitague was taken to a local hospital where he is currently in critical but stable condition; the investigation suggested an argument between the two men escalated to violence which led to Taitague obtaining a firearm and shooting Cochran, afterward a security staffer at the nightclub reacted by shooting Taitague.
This violent altercation has led to Taitague's arrest on a charge of First Degree Murder, which will be formally processed once he is released from medical care.
