
A man was arrested in the University District of Seattle on charges of criminal trespassing, resisting arrest, and assaulting police officers. The incident that led to the man's arrest occurred Tuesday afternoon, according to the SPD Blotter.
Following reports of a man found sleeping amidst drug paraphernalia inside a vacant apartment on the 4200 block of 9th Avenue Northeast, officers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 10:48 p.m. on Tuesday. The suspect was discovered in one of the bedrooms by the police who then proceeded to try and make contact with him. This interaction quickly escalated into a physical confrontation, with the man fighting to not comply with the officers' commands, and in the process, resisting their attempts to arrest him.
During the altercation, officers deployed a taser effectively to subdue and take the suspect into custody. He faces charges for Criminal Trespass, Resisting Arrest, and Assault. Additionally, the 38-year-old man had two outstanding arrest warrants for Reckless Burning and Criminal Trespass.
Subsequent to the arrest, the suspect was booked into the King County Jail. The SPD's Homicide & Assault Unit has since been designated to investigate this case further. The circumstances surrounding the initial trespass and the ensuing altercation with the police are still being reviewed by detectives.
