A man has been arrested following a high-speed police involvement that started in West Memphis and ended with a vehicle crashing into a South Memphis home. As reported by Action News 5, West Memphis police officers noticed a suspicious vehicle moving toward Memphis, prompting a pursuit when the driver sped off abruptly. The chase concluded with the suspect losing control of the car and slamming into a residence on East Frank Avenue.
After the incident, Jairus Lee was detained and later charged with multiple offenses, including reckless driving and evading arrest. Following the crash, a $6,000 bond was set for Lee. As WREG confirms, the West Memphis Police are now working in coordination with the Memphis Police Department to further investigate the incident and ensure the community's safety.
While the West Memphis Police did not categorize the interaction as a chase, questions remain regarding how the vehicle was deemed suspicious and the reasons for West Memphis officers being on the Tennessee side of the state line. Echoing the concerns of the surrounding neighborhood, homeowner Evan Brannon said to FOX13 Memphis, "There’s a baby in there that could have been killed." Brannon also emphasized the improbability of survival given the damage to his home, stating, "Very fortunate that we didn’t have any injuries in an incident like this."
