Residents of an Orlando apartment complex experienced an unsettling disturbance when police discovered a man hiding in the attic of one of the building's storage units. According to FOX 35 Orlando, the situation unfolded after a maintenance worker heard strange noises from the attic space on Nov. 2, prompting a call to law enforcement.
Upon arrival, officers used technology to their advantage by employing a pole-mounted camera to peer into the attic, where they detected signs of disturbance, including shuffling sounds and shifted insulation. The man, later identified as Carlos Oguis, 24, remained hidden despite police commands to descend from the attic, leading to a tactical decision to deploy irritants to coax him out, as detailed by ClickOrlando.
The intervention proved effective; shortly after the irritants were released, a commotion was noted in the attic, and Oguis's foot crashed through the ceiling. Body camera footage captured the scene, which recorded an officer's command to "Come down, show me your hands!" Oguis, no longer able to maintain his cover, complied and descended the attic ladder, as reported by FOX 35 Orlando.
Oguis, who is now known for more than just his attempt at hide-and-seek, was taken into custody shoe-less and is facing charges including burglary, trespass in a structure, and criminal mischief.
