Maui Community Invited to Voice Opinions on Proposed $14.1M Purchase of Von Tempsky Property in KulaSource: County if Maui

Maui residents will soon have the chance to provide input on a proposed land acquisition by the county. Maui County is considering purchasing the 273-acre Von Tempsky property in Kula, formerly known as Kula Ridge Mauka, for $14.1 million. The Maui County has called for community feedback, and more details about the proposal will be shared at an upcoming Kula Community Association meeting.

The meeting, led by County of Maui Managing Director Josiah Nishita, will take place tomorrow at 6 p.m. at the Von Tempsky Community Center on Lower Kula Road. This session will allow residents to discuss the proposed purchase before attending the Maui County Council Budget, Finance, and Economic Development Committee meeting.

Yuki Lei Sugimura, BFED Committee Chair and Council Vice Chair, encouraged local residents to participate. "I encourage the community to weigh in on possible uses of the Von Tempsky property and to please attend the community meeting or the BFED meeting on Thursday, November 21st,” she said in a County of Maui announcement. The BFED meeting will be held on Thursday at 9 a.m. at the Planning Conference Room at Kalana Pakui Building in Wailuku.

With stakes high for the potential impacts of this land purchase, Sugimura remains available for contact ahead of the meetings. Concerned citizens or those interested in the future of the Von Tempsky land are invited to reach out directly to her office via email at [email protected] or by calling (808) 270-7939 for more information or to express their perspectives outside of the meeting times.
